Kindfulness Collective was born from a simple but powerful belief: awareness alone is not enough. Inspired by Ajahn Brahm's philosphy of Kindfulness, our work transforms mindful awareness into compassionate, courageous action that nurtures belonging, equity, and community.
Mindfulness teaches us to notice. Kindfulness invites us to respond. Lasting change happens when awareness becomes compassionate action, expressed through the everyday choices we make to care for ourselves, one another, and the world around us.
Founded by educator Nicole O'Connell Gonzalez in 2018 as Kindfulness Kids, the organization began as a way to bring yoga, mindfulness, and social-emotional learning into classrooms and after-school programs. Drawing on her experience as an educator and certified children's yoga and mindfulness teacher, Nicole designed experiences rooted in child development, culturally responsive teaching, trauma-informed practices, and the belief that every child deserves to feel seen, valued, and empowered to thrive.
Then the world changed.
As schools navigated the challenges of the pandemic, conversations around mental health and social-emotional learning rightly expanded. Yet one question continued to surface: Who is supporting the adults? While schools focused on meeting the needs of students, educators and families were also carrying unprecedented levels of stress, grief, uncertainty, and responsibility. Nicole recognized that children learn as much from who we are as from what we teach. Creating emotionally healthy classrooms begins with emotionally supported adults.
That realization transformed Kindfulness Kids into Kindfulness Collective—a community dedicated to supporting the whole ecosystem surrounding children. Today, Kindfulness Collective partners with educators, families, schools, universities, and organizations to cultivate reflective practices, resilience, courageous conversations, and compassionate leadership. Through professional learning, workshops, coaching, curriculum design, family engagement, and community-building experiences, the Collective helps people move beyond awareness toward meaningful action.
Grounded in the principles of equity, belonging, and our shared humanity, Kindfulness Collective believes that lasting change begins within each of us and grows outward through our relationships. Inspired by Martin Luther King Jr.'s vision of the Beloved Community, we strive to create brave, safe, and equitable spaces where curiosity leads to reflection, reflection inspires compassion, and compassion becomes action. When adults are supported, children flourish. When communities choose courage over comfort and connection over division, everyone has the opportunity to grow as their whole self.
Kindfulness Collective equipts educators, families, schools, and organizations to cultivate awareness, compassion, courage, and belonging through reflective practice, evidence-informed learning, and meaningful action. Together, we grow people who grow communities.
We envision communities where every person feels seen, values, and empowered to contribute their gifts: communities rooted in belonging, justice, compassion, and our shared humanity.
